Male pattern baldness stages

Male pattern baldness stages proceed gradually from start to end. It is a progressive disease that most men have to face once in their life. If you are of 20 years, then you have a 20% chance of suffering from androgenetic alopecia. When you get old, the possibility of getting hair loss increases by 10% in every decade of your life. MPB may occur due to changes in hormones, genetics, medications, and age-related factors. There are seven stages of MPB, and by using, Hamilton-Norwood scale, you can observe how to advance your status, and whether you should look for medical treatment or any other solution. Hamilton-Norwood scale was introduced by James Hamilton and O’Tar Norwood. Here are its stages;

Baldness seven stages

Male pattern baldness stages

Stage I

Stage I is not much severe like other states, because it is just the start of hair loss. Thinning starts from the temples and then recedes upward toward the head crown. This stage is so initial that you are not able to recognize whether it is your seasonal hair fall or due to the inheritance factor. So you should pay close attention to initial shedding if it is an inherited factor.

Stage II

In stage II, alopecia increases at the left and right temple gradually. The recession starts from the hairline, and it creates a M like shape. This shape is usual in men as they get older. This stage is unnoticeable, but the hair in the center of the forehead gets thinner. Male pattern baldness stages proceed slowly from start to the end.

Stage III

In stage III, alopecia becomes visible. You start noticing shedding of strands. Hair in the center of the forehead appears to be very thin, and bald spots may develop from here. It seems tricky to recover from this stage.

Stage IV

As you proceed with male pattern baldness stages, it becomes very noticeable because you may develop large bald spots that may start from the top of head to the back where you develop bald patches. The hair at the top becomes thin that may lead to androgenetic alopecia.

Stage V

At this stage of male pattern baldness, you may develop the horse-shoe shaped hairline that is bald on the top and has hair on sides of the head and recedes at the whole head. It appears difficult to treat.

Stage VI

This stage is the most advanced type in which the hairline reaches to the top of your head crown, and the hair present here does not provide full coverage to your scalp. Hair at the top is thin and not as thick as before.

Stage VII

This stage is the last stage of male pattern baldness stages where you may develop Horse-shoe shape or traditional cul-de-sac pattern in which your front of your is bald, and hair remains at the sides of the head. Hair density is much thinner than before, and there are no bridges in the center that may cover your scalp. If you do not pay any serious attention at this stage, then you have very little chance to recover. Almost all hope has gone at this stage.
